Alberta's Chamomile Invasion
With all the chamomile tea benefits we sometimes forget that chamomile is actually a weed. As the city of Calgary, Alberta have come to realise, its quite a hardy weed that is hard to get rid of.
A 60 per cent jump in herbicide use by the city suggests it's time to be more aggressive in pursuing non-chemical options under Calgary's integrated pest management strategy. Herbicides are an easy and cheap way of controlling problem weeds, and, occasionally, are the best option to deal with infestations of thistles, scentless camomile, yellow toadflax and other threats to the landscape. But with improved soil and vegetation management, good design, strategic plant selection and some hard, manual labour, the city could keep its weeds under control without chemicals.
